Can you laser engrave in color? That is one of the most asked questions we get. The answer is, but it also depends on the type of material that is being engraved.

There have been a lot of advancements in the laser engraving space over the past few years, and one of them has been adding color to specific engraves.

The process is relatively simple. It’s either masking off the area and spray painting the engrave or using a powder coat substance and then going over the engraving surface one more time to “seal” the powder coat in the design.

However, adding color to something lasered needs to be considered. You should ask yourself or the company engraving if adding color will enhance the item. While adding color may seem an excellent idea, it can often take away from the beautiful effect of laser engraving. It might end up looking like a sticker or printed.

Since laser engraving is a permanent decoration, it’s important to ensure you know how the final product will look. Depending on what you need to be engraved and the difficulty involved, it’s a good idea to ask if you can see a sample of what you want specifically or if they have any examples they can show.
